Adopts High-Rise Ordinance
Chicago
Aldermen have voted unanimously to require fire sprinklers
in older commercial high-rises. The ordinance was drafted
after six people died during a blaze last year in the
downtown Cook County Administration Building. It requires
sprinklers in commercial high-rises built before 1975,
the year the sprinklers became mandatory.
