Jeff Spivey, CPP, PSP, Assumes
Presidency of ASIS International for 2006
Alexandria,
VA (January 6, 2006) – Jeff Spivey, CPP, PSP, has advanced
to the presidency of ASIS International (ASIS), the
preeminent organization for security professionals,
effective Jan. 1, 2006. He brings nearly 30 years of
experience in law enforcement and the private security
industry to the position, having spent the last 23 years
working in and consulting to corporations on security
management. Currently, Spivey is Director of Security
Risk Management, Inc. (SRM), a security consulting firm
he founded in 1989, headquartered in Charlotte, North
Carolina.
Spivey’s
focus for 2006 will be rededicating the Society to its
vision of “advancing security worldwide” by helping
government and the security profession to develop effective
strategies to address terrorism and other security issues,
streamlining existing ASIS governance and volunteer
leadership structures and processes to better manage
the key challenges and opportunities that arise within
the security profession, developing guidelines and standards
for the security profession and promoting certification
as a professional competency standard.
As
“convergence”—or the merger of traditional and information
technology security— has created a new paradigm for
protecting corporate assets, Spivey will also lead the
ASIS effort to ensure the successful integration of
these two fields in the evolving body of knowledge in
security.
Mr.
Spivey is a graduate of the University of North Carolina
(Charlotte) with a B.S. in Criminal Justice Management
and holds the highest certifications in the security
management profession, that of Certified Protection
Professional (CPP) and Physical Security Professional
(PSP). He has authored several articles in security
trade journals and has been a featured speaker at various
security, risk management, criminal investigation and
counter-terrorism conferences throughout the country.
Mr.
Spivey and his family live in Charlotte, North Carolina.
ASIS
International (ASIS) is the preeminent organization
for security professionals, with more than 33,000 members
worldwide. Founded in 1955, ASIS is dedicated to increasing
the effectiveness and productivity of security professionals
by developing educational programs and materials that
address broad security interests, such as the ASIS Annual
Seminar and Exhibits, as well as specific security topics.
ASIS also advocates the role and value of the security
management profession to business, the media, government
entities, and the public. By providing members and the
security community with access to a full range of programs
and services, and by publishing the industry’s number
one magazine — Security Management — ASIS leads the
way for advanced and improved security performance.
